Like many of the mountain churches in the Tarentaise valley, the one in Montgirod, whose patron saint is Saint Laurent, stands on the edge of the plateau the village, overlooking the Isère valley.
It is mentioned for the first time in 1151 and comes under the authority of the collegiate church of the canons of Saint Ours (Aosta).
