Going skiing in the Alps in a camper van or converted van? It's possible thanks to caravaneige!
Caravaneige, a contraction of "caravan" and "snow," is simply the winter version of camping. Because yes: going in a camper van at the foot of the ski slopes is possible! After all, why give up camping in winter if you love it?
To do this, you just need to:
- Find a caravaneige to park your camper van or converted van (not all summer campgrounds are open in winter, but good news, in La Plagne, you have a choice of two caravaneiges)
- Book your spot for one night, two nights, three nights…
- Equipping your vehicle for the mountains in winter: winter tires and/or snow chains, insulating curtains or padded shutters to protect you from the cold, stationary heating, a broom to clear the snow off the roof before departure, a scraper to remove ice from the windshield…
- Adapting your cozy nest to keep it that way despite the negative temperatures and snow: "extreme cold" sleeping bags, a tray for your wet shoes to keep your "home sweet home" nice and clean…

Park your camper van or converted van as close to the ski slopes as possible, for a night or for the week.
The caravan-ski in the Alps is THE solution to combine the "van life" spirit with great skiing. Forget the long transfers between your spot in the valley and the ski slopes: in La Plagne, the two caravan-ski locations are ideally situated near the ski lifts.

Do you prefer to enjoy a panoramic view and don't mind walking a little (450 meters to be precise)? Opt for the caravan-ski of Montchavin-les-Coches. You will love its panoramic terraces, offering an unobstructed view of Mont Blanc.
Practice: reservations are made per night. It's up to you to decide whether to stay for one night or a week (unlike most accommodations, which only offer reservations from Saturday to Saturday).

In total, around sixty spots are specially arranged for motorhomes and converted vans in the La Plagne area:
- 23 spots at the Montchavin-les-Coches caravan park
- 40 spots at the Plagne Centre caravan park.
The Montchavin-les-Coches caravan park is a true campsite, with a warm welcome and useful services such as heated restrooms and a room to dry your ski gear.
The Plagne Villages caravan park offers you essential services: electricity, drinking water, waste water disposal, and cassette emptying.
Reservations can be made online in just a few clicks. Ideal for a spontaneous ski trip! You just need to keep an eye on the weather forecast (sunny days or snowfall depending on your sliding preferences: alpine skiing on the slopes, freeride, ski touring…). Then check the available spots and secure your place before your arrival.
Caravaneige: the solution for a weekend skiing in the Alps at a very low price
Going skiing just for the weekend is not always simple: many accommodations are only available for the week (from Saturday to Saturday), and the budget can quickly rise when you love skiing and want to hit the slopes as often as possible.
Caravaneige is the cheapest and most flexible accommodation solution for skiing for a day or two, several times during the winter.
For example:
- A pitch for 1 night / 2 people will cost you €17 without electricity at the caravaneige campsite in Montchavin-les-Coches (€32 with electricity)

The two caravanning sites of Plagne Villages and Montchavin-les-Coches are regularly cleared of snow and provide motorhome users and owners of converted vans with: electricity, drinking water, as well as a space for dumping waste water and cassettes.
The caravanning site of Montchavin-les-Coches also offers: heated sanitary facilities (showers, toilets), a friendly common room with books, board games, and a television, a drying room for your ski clothes, a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer, the sale of propane gas bottles, as well as a video surveillance system.
