Is the resort open in December?

Yes, La Plagne's ski slopes open in mid-December. The ski area culminates at an altitude of over 3,000 m, guaranteeing a snow-covered ski area even before the start of the Christmas vacations.

Which ski resorts are still open in April?

The ski resorts open in April are the high-altitude resorts that remain snow-covered until spring. This is the case at La Plagne, where you can ski in March and April without any problems.
Book your ski vacation with confidence: spring holds many surprises for mountain lovers, even those used to skiing in December, January or February! In March/April, the snow is softer, the days are longer, the temperatures rise...

Skiing becomes "cooler" and more relaxed: you can follow the sun from one slope to the next, stop for a coffee on the terrace of a high-altitude restaurant, and take advantage of spring conditions to discover new disciplines (such as snowboarding or ski touring).

The station is open! But what does that mean?

In winter, when we speak of an open resort, we generally mean an open ski area. In other words, when the resort is open, the lifts are running during the day and the downhill slopes are groomed and ready to welcome skiers.

When the resort is open, so are the shops and accommodation: equipment rental stores, ski schools, activity providers, restaurants, hotels, etc.

In summer, the opening of the resort also means the opening of lifts for mountain bikes and pedestrians, as well as the opening of accommodation, summer activities, shops and restaurants (which can be progressive)...

So don't forget to take a look at the resort's opening dates before planning your vacation: you'll be sure to be able to spend your winter or summer vacations in La Plagne! Going skiing with children? The resort is open during the Christmas and winter school vacations, and partly during the spring vacations (also known as the Easter vacations). These periods are generally very popular, so book your accommodation well in advance to benefit from the widest choice (apartments, hotels...) and early booking offers.

The resort is also open outside school vacations. The months of January and March are often quieter and more economical, thanks to special offers from accommodation providers. Perfect for last-minute vacations with friends!

For a more relaxed ski vacation, don't forget to book your parking space online (if you're coming by car and your accommodation provider doesn't offer private parking), as well as your ski passes and equipment.

Where to ski at the moment? Which ski slopes are open in December, January, February, March and April?

La Plagne'sski slopes are open from mid-December to April. The first pistes to open are those at high altitude. As a general rule, around 70% of the ski area is open by mid-December, and 100% by the Christmas school vacations.

In spring, the first slopes to close are those at lower altitudes - usually a week or so before the rest of the high-altitude ski area closes.

The La Plagne ski area, linked to the Les Arcs and Peisey Vallandry ski areas(Paradiski ski area), is gigantic! In total: 225 km of pistes for La Plagne and 425 km of pistes for the linked Paradiski area, 70% of which are above 2000 m altitude. So there's something for everyone all winter long, from December to April.

Can I come to La Plagne when the resort isn't open?

Of course you can! La Plagne and its villages are places to live, and many mountain lovers live here all year round. There's no barrier at the entrance to the resort that lowers when the lifts and ski runs close.

On the other hand, when the resort isn't open, the shops usually aren't either... so you'll have more trouble finding accommodation or a mini-market to do your shopping in the high-altitude villages.

Do you ski-tour in winter, or hike in summer? In the off-season, discover another, much quieter side of the mountains! With a little organization (for example, by preparing your picnic in advance, and making sure that all safety conditions are met), you can spend a wonderful day in the mountains, even when the resort is closed.

Good to know: the village ofAime La Plagne, located in the valley, is open all year round (the 4,500 inhabitants who live there can confirm this!). You'll find plenty of shops, restaurants and services, as well as a train station (many trains pass through all year round, including TGVs direct from Paris or Lyon, for example, during the winter season).

Which ski resorts are closed?

The opening of ski resorts depends mainly on their snow cover, and therefore on their altitude. The lower a resort's altitude, the earlier it closes. Conversely, the higher the altitude, the later the resort closes.

With a ski area peaking at over 3,000 m, La Plagne is one of the resorts that stays open well into April. The ski slopes open gradually from mid-December onwards, closing in the second half of April (with a slight time lag between the high-altitude area and the villages below).
