Introduction to pottery

Favorite
Lorène Herrero, a Fine Arts graduate, offers an introduction to pottery (wheel-thrown ceramics) in her studio; 1h30 or 2h workshops, or 2-3 day courses.
From 08/02 to 05/03/2027 on Monday and Tuesday between 2 pm and 4 pm and between 4 pm and 5.30 pm. On Wednesday between 10 am and 11.30 am and between 10 am and 12 pm.
To personalize your pieces (colors, texture, adding a handle...), opt for the 2-day course,
2-day course :
Day 1: throwing
1 - Prepare the clay, after weighing out the required quantity. The clay is then worked to avoid air bubbles, which can cause the piece to explode during firing (thermal shock).
2 - The ball of clay is thrown onto the girelle, then the particles are aligned before the ball is centered (or vice-versa).
3 - Drilling and opening according to the desired pot (thicker or thinner bottom, flat or concave...).
4 - Raising: from bottom to top, to create the pot's edges and refine it. The shape is determined (straight, rounded, flared, etc.). Finish with sponge and/or estèque. Using the thread, remove the pot from the girelle to dry (without touching the piece too much, as it's very soft and full of water).
Day 2: turning
The following day (or a few days later if drying is deliberately delayed), the excess clay at the base of the turned pots is removed by turning. The pot is worked on the wheel once it has reached a "leathery" consistency.
A mirette (or tournassin) is used to create the base of the pot. We can also round off the base and rework the edges. See photo below: on the right, a pot made in initiation before turning; on the left, a turned pot that is beginning to dry.
It's also at this stage that you can add a handle or decorations (colored engobes and sgraffitto, details carved with a mirette...).

Registration via online form www.loreneh.com/contact, the day before before 6 p.m. Places are limited, subject to a minimum of 2 participants.
On the day, avoid white clothes and long nails.
