The wild soul of Champagny-en-Vanoise
The Torrent du Remous is one of Champagny-en-Vanoise's natural jewels. Awarded the " Site Rivières Sauvages " label in January 2026, it is one of the few watercourses in France to retain an entirely natural, unadulterated flow.
Rising from its source at an altitude of 2,500 m, the Remous winds its way for almost 15 kilometers through unspoilt countryside, between wetlands dotted with cottongrass, alpine meadows and forests. As it flows, it reveals a rich and fragile biodiversity, characteristic of mountain ecosystems.
A preserved natural site
Discreet but very present, life reveals itself through species such as the black woodpecker, the red-legged frog and numerous aquatic insects.
Along the torrent, the walker discovers a soothing atmosphere, carried by the murmur of the water and the changing light of the seasons.
Sometimes calm and limpid, sometimes brighter after the snow melts, the torrent offers an ever-changing natural spectacle.
A gentle touch!
To enjoy the Remous to the full while respecting its fragile balance, a few simple gestures are essential:
- Stay on the paths: the banks of the torrent are life zones that are sensitive to trampling.
- Opt for discretion: this allows you to observe the fauna without disturbing it.
- Leave no trace: remember to take your garbage with you.
