Zip-lining: The Most Accessible Thrill-Seeking Activity

Imagine this: a high-rope course professional fits you with a harness, which is connected to a pulley that they’ll help you secure to a thick cable stretched between a starting platform and a landing platform below. Ready to take the plunge? All you have to do is lift your feet off the ground… and let yourself glide for 10, 20, or 30 seconds without a care in the world! Easy, right?

Ziplining is one of the most accessible thrill-seeking activities: no leaps into the void or sensation of falling (unlike canyoning, for example, which requires a bit more commitment), constant contact with a taut cable (perfect for those who aren’t too keen on activities too far off the ground, like paragliding), and no special technical skills required (unlike rock climbing, for example). The proof: in La Plagne, you can try zip-lining as young as 3 years old on the Giant Zip Line at Belle Plagne!

In La Plagne, you can zip-line in summer as well as in winter

Did you think zip-lining was only for the summer? Think again! You can also zip through the snow-covered trees in the winter.

In Belle Plagne, the Trio de Tyroliennes Géantes (a series of three zip lines, open to ages 12 and up) is open from December through April, as is the Super Tyro zip line at Aime 2000 (600 m long; for riders weighing at least 20 kg).

Super Tyro

In July and August, the snow gives way to a wider variety of courses. The famous Super Tyro, with its 600-meter cable, remains open all summer long at Aime 2000, while new zip-line courses become available in Belle Plagne (the Cascade de Tyroliennes, featuring 10 zip lines to complete in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, as well as the 115-meter-long Giant Zip Line for the whole family to enjoy; ages 3 and up).

Courses for all skill levels to get started with zip-lining with confidence

Ziplining requires no special technical skills—just a little courage to take the plunge into the void.

Never tried a zip line before? Prefer to take it step by step? In both winter and summer, you’ll find courses of varying lengths and heights to build your confidence and gradually get your adrenaline pumping.

In winter, for example, you can start with the Trio de Tyroliennes Géantes in Belle Plagne to get a feel for zip-lining on 400 meters of cable, which you’ll descend in three runs. Then move on to the real deal with the 600-meter cable of the Super Tyro at Aime 2000 (to be completed in a single run!).

In the summer, you can even build your confidence on the shorter zip lines at the adventure courses in Belle Plagne and Champagny-en-Vanoise before taking on increasingly bigger challenges: the Giant Zip Line(115 m long) and the Belle Plagne Zip Line Cascade (10 zip lines in a row), and finally the famous Super Tyro at Aime 2000 with its 600 m of cable (yes, that’s right—singular!).

Are you a daredevil at heart? Doyou want to try the Super Tyro right away, even if you’ve never gone zip-lining before? It’s possible!

No matter which course you choose, you’ll be equipped with a harness, lanyards, carabiners, and a pulley. The supervising staff—instructors certified under the CQP OPAH program (Certificate of Professional Qualification, High-Altitude Adventure Course Operator)—will be there to put you at ease, give you instructions, and make sure everything is clear for you to set off safely.

Children aged 3 and over also have the right to a zip-line descent!

Are your little ones fearless? Take them on a zip-line ride! And not just any “kiddie” zip line. No, no. A real zip line—115 meters long and suspended 25 meters above the ground—to offer thrills for the whole family (parents included).

The meeting point is in Belle Plagne, where an instructor specializing in high-altitude adventure courses is ready to rig up all participants (kids ages 3 and up, teens, and adults). 115 meters down the line, a second instructor awaits you at the finish to safely catch you… and show you how to get back to the top of the zip line for your second run!

The Giant Zip Line? An accessible and affordable summer activity that will make daring young children (and their parents…) proud.

The Super Tyro and the Giant Zip Line: For Zip Line Enthusiasts

Do you love zip-lining? Do the other activities typically found on adventure courses bore you (or tire out your arms too much…)? Want to try a thrilling activity during your vacation… but prefer something quick so it doesn’t cut into your skiing schedule in winter or hiking plans in summer? We’ve got just what you need!

In winter: you’ll love the Super Tyro at Aime 2000 (a breathtaking 600-meter descent to zoom down in one go, for an express thrill ride) and the Trio of Giant Zip Lines at Belle Plagne (a total of 400 m of cables to explore in a series of consecutive runs).

In summer: the 600-meter descent of the Super Tyro at Aime 2000 is still there, plus the Giant Zip Line at Belle Plagne (115 m long—a thrilling experience accessible to children ages 3 and up), or the nearby Zipline Cascade (about ten ziplines in total, plus a few ladders and a 100% safe 9-meter-high leap into the void).

Adventure courses (summer): explore the peaks in all their glory (zip lines, monkey bridges, slides, nets...).

You love zip-lining… but are you worried you won’t get your fill unless you add some more challenging aerial acrobatics to your high-speed descent? Opt for a more comprehensive experience with the adventure courses in Belle Plagne and Champagny-en-Vanoise, open in the summer. It’s a chance to enjoy some zip-lining, as well as many other tree-top activities (monkey bridges, nets, Tarzan vines, and more).

In Champagny-en-Vanoise, two courses have been set up by the Guides’ Office: a short course for ages 5–12, and a long course for ages 12 and up.

In Belle Plagne, the introduction to tree-top adventure is even more gradual across five courses (including three with zip lines): a mini-discovery course for children ages 4 to 7, followed by four other courses rated green (easy), blue (beginner), red (difficult), and black (advanced) for children ages 8 and up (12 and up for the black course) and adults. As the difficulty level increases, the challenges get tougher: higher (from 2.5 m to 25 m!), more physically demanding (you might have sore arms the next day…), and more impressive (the black course will take you across the highest Tibetan bridge in the Tarentaise Valley!). Don’t panic, though: you’ll need to complete each level before moving on to the next one (it’s impossible to accidentally overestimate your skill level).

Ziplining: An Activity That’s Easy to Fit Into Your Vacation Schedule

Is your activity schedule packed? Don’t let that stop you from trying that zip-line ride you’ve been dying to do! Book a time slot at Super Tyro, a 600-meter-long zip line (the longest in La Plagne) that you can zip down in one go in just 30 seconds flat (and at speeds of up to 90 km/h!). Perfect for thrill-seekers in a bit of a hurry, in both winter and summer.

Got some time to spare? Treat yourself in winter to the Belle Plagne Zipline Trio, and in summer to the Belle Plagne Zipline Cascade as well (about ten ziplines in total—completing the course will easily keep you busy for 1 to 1.5 hours).

Belle Plagne, Aime 2000 and Champagny-en-Vanoise: three very different places to go zip-lining on your Savoie vacation

At Aime 2000, you can enjoy zip-lining in both winter and summer thanks to the Super Tyro (the longest zip line in La Plagne: 600 m long!). You “land” at Plagne Centre, and getting back to the starting point is a breeze thanks to the Télémétro (free).

In Belle Plagne, the zip line takes on a different look with the changing seasons. In winter, the Trio of Giant Zip Lines awaits you (a total of 400 m of cable to zip down). In summer, you can choose between the Giant Zip Line (115 m long, 25 m high, accessible even to toddlers as young as 3), the Zipline Cascade (10 interconnected ziplines leading up to the final, 100% safe big jump), or the Adventure Course for all skill levels (to mix things up and have fun in the trees with a wider variety of activities).

In Champagny-en-Vanoise, zip-lining is part of the adventure course (two levels: short course and long course), open in July and August.

You'll love it!

There's always a good reason to come to La Plagne ❤️
