Conference | The Alps of the future: looking back with pride and preparing for the future with confidence
La Plagne Vallée
Find out moreThe Alps of the future: looking back with pride and preparing for the future with confidence, by Séverin Duc.
This conference is divided into three parts that aim to decipher the future of the mountains by looking at what history has taught us.
This means highlighting that the constraints (slopes, seasons, etc.) have been the driving force behind a real Alpine art of adapting and innovating, a dynamic that can be seen in the solutions that have been found: staged activities, water collection, original buildings, etc.
This dynamic would not have been possible without the appropriate governance of shared resources for the common good.
In the 20th century, this mountain culture of work and cooperation allowed the Alpine populations to become pioneers by inventing new trades (particularly in tourism) and new ways of living in both the valleys and the mountains.
Today, climate change means we must revive our common culture of adaptation and stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship beyond the tourism sector alone.
