Ensemble Près de votre oreille: Lighten Mine Eies.
Psalms for three voices and Harp Consorts by William Lawes (1602-1645)

Although lttle-known, William Lawes' music shines through its inventiveness and expressiveness. The Harp Consorts illustrate the avant-garde nature of a composer whose premature death, during the English civil war was seen as a tragedy by the musical community of the time. As for the psalms for three voices, they are simply sublime. 'Lighten Mine Eies', based on a text attributed to King David himself, is one of these.

For their very first album on Harmonia Mundi, Robin Pharo and his ensemble, 'Près de votre oreille', explore the work of a composer who took instrumental art and vocal music to an incredible level of perfection. it is a delightful rediscovery.
