In the Alps, La Plagne sees double in 2025!

23 years after the Dutchman Michael Booberg won the Tour, La Plagne is proud to welcome back the legendary Grande Boucle in 2025. The Tour de France is back in force with two major events that will mark the summer.

On 20 July, cycling fans will set off on L'Etape du Tour in French Alps, a legendary event that allows almost 16,000 enthusiasts to ‘take the wheel’ of the professionals every year. This cyclosportive race is the only amateur race held on roads completely closed to traffic!

Five days later, on 25 July, the professional riders will cross the finish line at La Plagne after an epic stage from Albertville and the legendary Beaufortain passes.

🚸Information for local residents

  • If possible, avoid all travel on July 20 and 25.
  • For professionals: deliveries to be anticipated at altitude (very difficult on July 19 and 24, impossible on July 20 and 25).
  • Anticipate going up to La Plagne on the days of the event to get to work (very likely to be regulated by the gendarmerie ahead of the announced times).
  • Parking at altitude: dedicated parking lots for the socio-professionals of Plagne Villages, Plagne Soleil and Plagne Centre have been identified at altitude to compensate for the reservation of the usual parking lots, mobilized for the event.
  • 🚧Montée de La Plagne: barriers are set up at each intersection to secure race crossings (additional marshals at these points on D-day). 💖Adopt good behavior

  • Leave your vehicle in the parking areas provided for the event.
  • Respect the pedestrian access paths to the site. Don't go off the beaten track, or take shortcuts (a walker who cuts the laces saves a little time, hundreds of walkers represent a major factor of erosion).
  • Respect the flora and fauna.
  • Bring back your garbage, don't throw anything away. DO NOT THROW VEGETABLES INTO THE NATURE (hermetically-sealed boxes are available at the tourist office).
  • Keep your dog under control and on a leash.
  • Respect fences and grassed areas.

🧢Recommended equipment

  • Good climbing shoes, warm clothing and rain gear.
  • Hat or cap, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Water, cereal bars or dried fruit.
  • A charged cell phone.
  • First-aid kit.
  • Possibly a pair of walking sticks.

A spectacular mountain stage

This 100% Savoyard stage, the last major battle in the mountains, promises a demanding 130km route with 4,500 metres of ascent before the return to the plains. The riders will climb four passes before tackling the final 19.1km, 24-turn climb to Plagne Villages, at an altitude of over 2,000 metres.

This stage is shaping up to be one of the most intense of the 2025 Tour de France, with the best climbers battling it out for victory. WillJonas Vingegaard be able to break down Tadej Pogačar, the indomitable Slovenian rider who has just been crowned world champion, on the 24 bends of the final climb? History is on the way.

To experience this show live is to feel all the intensity of the Grande Boucle: the effort of the riders, the adrenalin of the final kilometres and the electrifying atmosphere that reigns along the route.
