MUST DO
Le Forperet à La Plagne Montalbert

We all know that you have to have a fondue when you’re in the mountains…for some people it’s actually the reason they come! After a great day on the slopes (or in the spa), you’re suddenly starving and it’s time to find a restaurant that will satisfy your yearning… for cheese.

We tested for you: the Forperet, a restaurant up above La Plagne Montalbert on the side of Le Gentil run, on the edge of the forest. This traditional chalet has a mini farm which supplies some of the restaurant’s produce. The chef, Roland, offers you the same warm welcome as if you were in his home. However, these are the three main reasons that we recommend this address:

  1. The fondue is just irresistible and there is a version made with cheese from the farm mixed with cider that you dip bread and apples into, delicious! As for the tartiflette, you have to book it the day before, so it has time to simmer, which gives you an idea of the quality of the food:;
  2. The chalet is a former sheep barn that respects all the Savoyard architectural codes: wood, wood and yet more wood, for a really cosy atmosphere. A picture window allows you to enjoy the amazing view of the Tarentaise valley with Mont Blanc as the backdrop;
  3. “Waste not, want not” has to be the restaurant’s motto. The leftovers from the restaurant are used to feed the pigs, the farm’s donkeys accompany hikers in the summer and the chickens provide the eggs. It’s ingenious, respectful and eco-friendly. If we have convinced you, you can book on 04.79.55.51.27, further info on www.forperet.com
