This appealing building with its amazing leaning bell tower, which looks out over the village from its gypsum promontory, houses a few gems of Baroque Savoyard art. Climb the steps and walk through its Baroque doorway to discover them.
Do not be fooled by the church's very simple exterior, which contrasts sharply with the richness of its interior decoration, typical of Baroque art: the details of the décor, the proliferation of gold and colours, the way the curved lines play with the light, the movements and the theatricality, etc.
The main altarpiece, sculpted by Jacques Clérant and Jean-Baptiste Gualaz in 1710, is completely gilded and populated by over a hundred cherubs, and is a perfect illustration of this. Angels and saints surround the Assumption of the Virgin and her Coronation. This catechism in images dating from the early 18th century is a reminder, in the face of Protestant affirmations, of the dogma of the Trinity, Incarnation and Redemption, the Eucharistic presence in the tabernacle, and the legitimate worship of the Virgin and the saints.
To the right, God the Father welcomes you with open arms at the top of the Rosary altarpiece, which shows the Virgin making intercession for the release of souls from Purgatory, flanked by twisted columns whose coils are adorned with roses!
