A summer holiday without going swimming is like a fondue without the Beaufort cheese: unimaginable! We’re sure you have remembered to put your hiking boots and poles in your bag to take to La Plagne, so just remember to leave a little space to add 3 swimsuits: a sports one, a pretty, comfortable one… and a “not-so-pretty” one ;) We’ll explain why (and help you to save space by leaving out an unnecessary 4th one!).
By “sports” swimsuit, we mean one that stays put in all circumstances! Because:
- You might want to swim a few lengths while the rest of your gang, adults and children alike, have fun in the play area with the water jets (the Splashpad, for connoisseurs) at the Espace Aqualudique Paradisio.
- Baby will love splashing around in the paddling pools at the municipal pool in Champagny-en-Vanoise, or the l’Espace Aqualudique Paradisio in Montchavin – Les Coches and you won’t want to spend your time adjusting your bathers every time you lean over, then stand up again, then lean over again to pick up a ball or a bucket..
- You won’t be able to escape the diving competition or sliding down the three colour waterslide at the l’Espace Aqualudique Paradisio in Montchavin – Les Coches with your older kids, nor the little hands of your younger ones clutching you as they attempt to beat the world underwater record (no less!) in the fun pool.
This is the one you can wear for all your post-hike “recovery” sessions in the resort’s spas (at the municipal ppol in Champagny-en-Vanoise or at the Espace Aqualudique Paradisio in Montchavin - Les Coches). CChoose one that is pretty (for your Insta photos) and comfortable… but especially that fits well enough not to float away in the jacuzzi (oops!).
Good to know: the Magic Pool aqua in Plagne Bellecôte, closed for work during the summer season 2024, also has a spa with saunas, a steam room and a whirlpool bath). Come and give it a(nother) go from winter 24-25!
Not so pretty… that’s subjective, of course. We should really say a swimsuit that you don’t like so much ;) Why? Because no-one will actually see this one! It will be hidden under a wetsuit when you go rafting, canyoning or white-water swimming (also called hydrospeed) in the Isère.
If you think that you won’t be needing this swimsuit because white-water sports are reserved for wild adventurers looking for thrills, think again! All these activities are accessible if you can swim and put your head under the water. There are even introductions to rafting for children aged 5 and over! Trust us: you really should put the not-so-pretty swimsuit in your bag or you risk regretting it…
If you are thinking of taking a swimsuit with you to bathe in the mountain lakes during your holiday in La Plagne and the surrounding villages, lighten your case by leaving it at home, you won’t be needing it. Why? Because swimming in the high-altitude lakes disturbs these fragile ecosystems (splashing, sun cream and micro-plastics do not mix well with the fauna and flora that like to go and drink there…).
The best idea if you want to swim somewhere other than one of the swimming pools is to go to one of the specially equipped lakes, like the one at Les Versants d’Aime. Children love its sandy beach, the water games, the mini-pedalos and the water walking balls; it’s the perfect spot for adults and teenagers wanting to chill out on their own or with their gang: picnic tables and barbecues are available (although you do have to bring your own food to grill!) and there is a large grassy area by the lake in a natural lush green setting.
A sports swimsuit, a pretty, comfortable swimsuit and a not-so-pretty swimsuit… You are ready for your summer holiday in La Plagne! All you have to do is move your sun cream from your backpack to your beach bag at the last minute. And yes: the roof of the pool in Champagny-en-Vanoise does slide back, while the fun pool at the Espace Aqualudique Paradisio in Montchavin – Les Coches is outdoors! Perfect for playing at being merfolk in the sunshine!
