There are things that we are so sure that they are impossible to do that we don’t even try to find out if we can do them. You might have been told you couldn’t do them in the past? Maybe they seemed too crazy to be true? Or you didn’t even imagine that such a concept could even exist?
Whatever you thought, “impossible” is just not La Plagne’s style! We love to make your dreams come true. Here are 3 activities that all came about the same way: after hearing someone on a chairlift saying to their friend: “imagine if only we could… that would be amazing!”.
Ride in a gondola cabin… without any windows!
You probably know what gondolas are: small cabins with windows that take you to the top of the mountain and let you admire the view. Except that the view, as amazing as it is, is not quite perfect. You have other skiers sitting opposite you and have to look around to admire the scenery (not always easy with a helmet + neck warmer + jacket zipped right up to your neck). And the windows are never quite clear enough for you (for your Instagram stories anyway).
So imagine this… we take the windows out, as well as the seats and part of the floor. There is just the metal framework of the cabin, a few handles and what is needed to firmly attach a harness to a life-line.
The result? Aérolive! Two ultra-minimalist cabins that take you up to Live 3000 with your hair blowing in the wind. And even let you lean out over the void below quite safely, to get even closer to the breathtaking landscapes surrounding you. Your ‘POV’ stories will get more ‘likes’ than ever!!
Being in this kind of setting certainly gives you ideas. Such as… a highly original marriage proposal, for example? Which is a good thing, since Aérolive can be privatised. You can get down on one knee in total privacy, with no pressure (so you won’t drop the ring in the heat of the moment…)
Spend the night… in a snow groomer, right in the heart of the ski area!
At night, you can see them out of the window. Little lights ‘lost’ out on the mountain, making the snow groomers look as if they are in a magical ballet set on the stage of the ski slopes. Maybe you have already dreamed of riding in a groomer? Seeing what it’s like to be out on the slopes in the black of night, with only foxes for company? Well, we have something even better to propose: a ride in a snow groomer… followed by a night on board!
It's called Over the Moon and it is even more of an exclusive experience than Aérolive, since only two lucky people each night get to sleep under the stars, far from the bright lights of the resort. On the outside: icily beautiful mountain peaks as far as the eye can see. Inside: an ultra-cosy suite (heated, of course), with a double bed, a whirlpool bath with a view of Mont Blanc, music, a home cinema and all you need for a tasty breakfast watching the sky turn pink in the first light of day. In short, all you need for a magical moment with your loved one (or with your best friend!). You will find yourselves lost for words, saying over and over “It’s just soooo beautiful….”.
You’ll need to keep a few superlatives back, though, because for three nights each winter, the experience goes up another notch: on 24 December (for a magical Christmas), 31 December (for a great start to the year) and 14 February (for an ultra-romantic Valentine’s Day)… If you are looking to be pampered, you won’t be disappointed!
Climb into a bobsled… in the pilot’s seat!
Climbing into a bobsled is already a pretty exclusive experience: after all, France’s one and only bobsleigh track is in La Plagne. Not many people get to play ‘Cool Runnings’ on a daily basis. Even fewer get to take the controls of the bob!
Generally speaking, adrenalin junkies know more about what it’s like to be in one of the three places behind the professional pilot who takes them on a crazy descent of the track (we’re talking about Bob Racing); or they go down as a team of 4 in a self-steering, self-braking Bob Raft. You’d have to be really mad to let just anyone take the controls, wouldn’t you?
Well… yes and no. Yes, you do have to be a bit mad. But no, we don’t mind taking responsibility for our crazy ideas! Which is why you can now book a course to learn how to become a bobsleigh pilot in a day with professional pilots (four dates during the winter season, two of which will be exclusively in French). On the programme: a briefing, a track walk, advice from the pros on how to choose your trajectory… and actually going down 7 bends (once as a pilot, once as brakeman/woman) before crossing the finish line at 80 km/h!
If you are looking for a gift idea (to give or suggest for yourself), here you go! Your favourite adrenalin junkies will lo-o-o-o-v-e these suggestions. You just have to up for talking about nothing else for weeks…
For once that you have a crazy idea and you find out that you can actually do it, you’re not going to shy away at the first obstacle! Open up the realm of possibilities this winter with Aérolive, Over the Moon or a bobsled driving experience!
