Le Puy du Fou is coming to La Plagne with a touch of Nordic history! For over ten years, the theme park in the Vendée has been in a partnership with the Savoyard resort and has now installed a Viking longship on Puy du Fou blue run. The impressive reconstitution was created by the Park’s talented set designers to pay tribute to their renowned show Les Vikings.

A Nordic immersion in the heart of the mountains

On 18 January 2025, during the inauguration of the installation, there was a real party atmosphere. Three skiers dressed as Vikings hurtled down the slopes dressed in animal skins and horned helmets. Their ship ‘ran aground’ in December, offering visitors an immersive and visually striking experience.

An adventure that will last years

This longship is only the first of a series of installations planned as part of the collaboration between Le Puy du Fou and La Plagne. With the partnership that began in 2014, the goal is clear: to combine the spectacular world of Le Puy du Fou with the magical setting of the Savoyard mountains. Every year, a new structure inspired by the shows at Le Puy du Fou will be added to the natural decor of this ski run. Among future planned themes, Laurent Albert, the park’s special advisor, is already talking about the possibility of an installation dedicated to the legend of King Arthur.

Breathtaking panoramas

While awaiting the future installations, skiers can make the most of the Viking longship to take back a lasting souvenir of their holiday, with a stunninng view of the Beaufortain, the Pierra Menta and even Mont Blanc in the background.

Dreaming on the ski slopes

Laurent Albert promises that the experience will soon be further enhanced by sound and lighting effects for a total immersion. He concludes by highlighting the similarities between the two partners: ‘ La Plagne and Le Puy du Fou have the same aim: selling dreams.’ A goal that is clearly coming to life in the heart of the mountains.

Key information on the longship

  • Measurements of the bow: length 4 m, width 1.45 m, height 3.50 m.
  • The installation was entirely designed and created by the teams from Le Puy du Foy. It was set up in collaboration with the teams from the Société d’Aménagement de La Plagne.
  • The longship is a photo spot for skiers who can go into and walk on the bow.
  • This is the first element in a 5-year project to stage theme installations on the run. In the long term, the Puy du Fou run will be entirely staged as a theme run, largely inspired by the park "as if you were really there". As they go down, skiers will go through the ages from ancient times to the Middle Ages and right through to the 19th century.
  • From 1 February and through to the end of the season, a competition (enter by scanning the QR code on the longship) will allow skiers to try their luck at winning 400 tickets and a stay at Le Puy du Fou.
