"Ce dont parlent les pierres " : SCULPTURES - ENGRAVINGS by Isabelle Milleret
"I woke up when I was 9. In the heart of the cold, steep mountains.
Reindeer ran along the hillside and the snow revealed a deep black earth. All life was there, summed up in that moment. All the power of the world, with all its promise.
That day made its mark, and the mountain has flowed through my veins ever since.
Today I want to nail those landscapes in my head every time, to swallow them so that I don't forget them. I'd like the mountain to be there in my eyes, in my guts, in my flesh. I'd like it to remind me at the top of my voice that it's beautiful, extraordinary, that this is what life can be: greatness, beauty, interdependence. That it will always be like that. Strong, unchanging.
That everything else is just there to confuse us.
This exhibition is a tribute to the mineral world. It features abstract sculptures in marble - some in Villette marble, known as Savoy Blue - drawings and engravings on copper, zinc and aluminium, depicting the mountain and its depths.
It's a journey into intimacy, far from the noise of the valley. A plunge into time.
A whisper of stone.
You might think that everything is still. But this is not the case.
"Stones are not nouns but verbs, visible evidence of processes, witnesses to local histories that reflect dynamics on a global scale. (M.B.)
Marble is alive. Sculpture is dialogue
