Films d'en Haut - Film screening: Terres du ciel, Cueilleurs d'alpages and Kyrgyz Raclette
Champagny en Vanoise
Find out moreTraditions and modernity in the mountain pastures of Savoie, all the way to Kirghizstan.
The first film takes us to the mountain pastures of Tarentaise to discover a handful of men and women who keep this mountain alive and thriving. We'll go from one mountain pasture to the next, meeting and learning about the lives of the alpagistes, who love the mountains and their profession. Beaufort cheese is at the heart of this ecosystem, helping to perpetuate life in the mountain pastures through a blend of tradition and modernity.
Producer: Pierre Guelpa Société d'Economie Alpestre de Savoie, Syndicat du Beaufort, Cinedoc films
Director: Ingels Vincent
The second film tells the story of the Kirghiz, a nomadic people who have never learned how to make cheese. During a trip to Kyrgyzstan, a Swiss woman is repeatedly approached by shepherds who want to learn the basics of cheese-making. On her return to Switzerland, she set up an association to meet this demand, and hired Marlène Galletti, a Valais-born mountain guide and cheese-maker, to pass on this know-how. We followed her to the alpine pastures of Kyrgyzstan, in the Tian Cian range on the border with China, at an altitude of 2,800 metres, to see how milk is transformed into cheese in a yurt. Film directed by Sandra Hebler (running time: 23 min.)
The film is followed by a cheese-tasting session hosted by a guide from the Pays d'art et d'histoire des Hautes vallées de Savoie (www.fondation-facim.fr) as part of the Les Films d'en Haut festival in Champagny-en-Vanoise.
